This website is to share information that I've gathered while researching the Williams family in Greenbrier County. If you have any information on any of the people in these files, please email me (greg@gregsmith.info) and share what you know. I would like for this to be a communal resource to help everyone researching these families. Surnames I'm researching : Williams, McCoy, Ocheltree, Blake |

Family Connections in Braxton/Lewis Co., Virginia - 1850 U.S. Census
I wanted to learn more about how the families in this area were connected.
After digging in, I realized that
almost all of the neighbors were somehow connected to each other through marriage.
The key thing to note here is that all of these people were neighbors. I haven't
found any proof yet that
Edward Williams is the son of John & Mary, but since all of the other Williams's
in the area were sons
of John & Mary, it seems like a logical assumption. Of course, that needs
further proof.
Even the other women who's maiden names were Williams were daughters of Ambrose,
father of John.
So every Williams in the neighborhood appears to be a descendant of Ambrose
Williams.
HOW TO READ THIS CHART:
- Names in bold were living across the border in Lewis Co.,
all other names were in Braxton Co.
- Names in grey were not living in the area. They were included to fill out
the tree.
- I included the ages given in the 1850 census next to their names.
- The marriage information of the couple is included next to their names, when
I could find it.
DISCLAIMER:
Since I was researching a ton of familes to do this, I had to rely on Rootsweb.com
family trees.
It may not all be correct, but I felt that for this sake of this experiment,
it would be good enough to
get a picture of the family relationships.
